Policies & Procedures

At The Velvet Paw, our goal is to provide a calm, safe, and positive grooming experience for every dog. The following policies help ensure the best care for your pup while allowing us to work efficiently and respectfully with all clients.

By booking an appointment, you agree to the policies outlined below.

Appointments & Booking

  • All grooming services are by appointment only

  • Appointments can be scheduled via call or text

  • Please arrive on time for your scheduled appointment

  • Late arrivals may result in a shortened service or need to reschedule

Service Options

We offer two grooming options:

  • Private home-based grooming salon (drop-off)

  • House-call grooming services

Availability and pricing may vary depending on the service location. Final pricing is confirmed prior to the start of the appointment.

Pricing & Payment

  • All prices listed are starting prices

  • Final pricing may vary based on:

    • Dog size and breed

    • Coat condition (matting, shedding)

    • Behavior or handling needs

    • Length of appointment

  • Payment is due at the time of service

  • Accepted payment methods will be discussed at booking

Coat Condition & Matting Policy

For your dog’s comfort and safety:

  • Matted coats require additional time and care

  • Light dematting may be included when tolerated

Severe matting may require:

  • Additional dematting fees

  • A shorter haircut

  • Or alternative grooming options

  • We do not perform painful or unsafe dematting. Your dog’s comfort always comes first.

Behavior, Temperament & Safety

  • Your dog’s safety is our top priority.

  • Dogs must be able to be handled safely for grooming

  • Aggressive or unsafe behavior may result in:

  • Modified services

  • Early termination of the groom

  • Or refusal of future services

  • Bite risks must be disclosed prior to booking

  • We reserve the right to stop a groom if a dog becomes overly stressed or unsafe.

Senior & Special Needs Dogs

  • We welcome senior and special-needs dogs.

  • Grooming will be customized to your dog’s comfort level

  • Frequent breaks may be taken

  • Groom length or styling may be adjusted for safety

  • Please inform us of any medical conditions, mobility concerns, or sensitivities before the appointment.

Puppy Grooming

  • Puppy grooms are designed to be short, positive introductions to grooming.

  • Puppies must be up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations

  • Services focus on comfort and building trust

  • Full styling may be introduced gradually over time

House-Call Grooming Policy

House-call services require:

  • A safe, accessible grooming area

  • Access to electricity and water if needed

  • Additional travel fees apply based on location

  • Missed or last-minute cancellations may incur a fee

Cancellations & No-Shows

  • We understand that life happens.

  • Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling

  • Same-day cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee

  • Repeated no-shows may require a deposit for future bookings

Health & Vaccination Policy

  • Dogs must be in good general health to be groomed

Please disclose:

  • Medical conditions

  • Skin issues

  • Allergies

  • Recent surgeries or injuries

  • Proof of rabies vaccination may be required

  • We reserve the right to refuse service if a dog shows signs of illness or parasites.

Photos & Marketing

With your permission, photos of your dog may be taken for:

  • Portfolio use

  • Website

  • Social media

If you prefer your dog not be photographed, please let us know.
